MemeTracker: Did The Blog or MSM Do It First?

Posted: July 19th, 2009   |   Category: Blog | Reporting | Tools

MemeTracker is a cool and unique tool that I found last week and wanted to share with you.

The original intent of MemeTracker is to identify the source of unique commentary or ideas in the context of the perceived ‘battle’ between bloggers and mainstream media outlets.

When you click on the visualizations for an interactive analysis of the source of comments, you get an array of charts that overlap, integrate and demonstrate the ‘Long Tail’ in action.

Since it’s a new product, the volume of interactions seems limited, but I hope that in time, there will be a wide array of ways that users will be able to add their own ‘memes’ so that the balance may seem a little less skewed.  In the meantime, MSM will enjoy its lead over bloggers when it comes to creating terms and anecdotes that we use in our blogged content.

Enjoy it while it lasts 😉
